How it began…
Ever since Andrea can remember, she has been on a quest to live an embodied, spiritual life. The practices of yoga and meditation wove into Andrea’s life in the year 2000 when she pressed play on an audio cassette titled “Gentle Kripalu Yoga”. She then proceeded to press play every evening before bed, for months… memorizing the sequence and getting hooked on yoga. Shortly after, she signed up for a beginner’s yoga series at the YWCA in Peterborough, ON where she was attending Trent University and stuck with the practices through thick and thin over the course of her life.
And then, the leap of faith…
In 2010, Andrea took her first 200hr yoga teacher training at Yandara Yoga Institute in the Baja, and taught her first yoga class (by donation karma class at the Howe Sound Women’s Centre) the day she got off the airplane. Since then, in between having two lovely children, she has managed to complete One Yoga’s 200hr teacher training with Ryan Leier and assisted two 300hr Shamanic Yoga teacher trainings in Squamish, as well as certifying in trauma-sensitive yoga through Yoga Outreach.
When she felt a deep pull to sing ancient mantra and dive deeply into the path of bhakti yoga, Andrea taught herself how to play the harmonium in 2016. This is Andrea’s path-with-heart, her personal practice that she loves to share with others - a healing balm for ourselves, and our world.
Andrea believes that yoga is real-life magic that enables people to unravel and come back to themselves. She wishes to offer her students a moment of reprieve from the fullness of day-to-day life, and the opportunity for self-inquiry, healing, awakening, heart-connection, and often, a good laugh. The teachings of yoga are an arrow that point us directly to the wholeness and perfection of who we already are.
Om purnam-adah purnam-idam
Om shanti shanti shanti
- Sri Isha Upanishad
This is perfect. That is perfect. From the perfect springs the perfect. Take the perfect from the perfect and only the perfect remains. May there be peace in my heart, peace with each other, peace in the cosmos.
When Andrea is not teaching yoga, you can find her working in the anti-violence sector as a Child, Youth and Family Counsellor at the Howe Sound Women’s Centre for the PEACE Program. She finds great joy in raising her beautiful boys with her partner Aaron, through family adventures walking to the river, climbing rocks, hiking up mountains or sailing the Salish sea.
